Not only is this BBQ pork sandwich delicious, but it also showcases the art of Southern cooking. By slow-cooking the pork until it’s tender and easily pulled apart, you create a sandwich that is both satisfying and packed with flavor. With just a few simple ingredients and some patience, you can serve up a dish that will impress family and friends alike.

Ingredient List

– 2 pounds pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 1 cup BBQ sauce (your choice)
– 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 teaspoon onion powder
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 4 sandwich buns (preferably brioche or hamburger buns)
– 1 cup pickles (sliced)
– 2 cups coleslaw mix
– 1/4 cup mayonnaise
– 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
– 1 tablespoon sugar
– Optional: hot sauce for extra kick

Instructions to Make the Recipe

1. Begin by preparing the pork shoulder. Rub the meat with olive oil, then season generously with smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
2. Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours, until the meat is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
3. Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker, and stir in the BBQ sauce. Let it cook on low for another 30 minutes to meld the flavors.
4. While the pork is finishing, prepare the slaw. In a large bowl, combine the coleslaw mix, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Toss well to combine and set aside.
5. Assemble the sandwiches by placing a generous portion of the BBQ pork on the bottom half of each sandwich bun. Top with a handful of slaw and a few pickle slices.
6. Place the top half of the bun on the sandwich and serve immediately. For a little extra heat, drizzle with hot sauce if desired. Enjoy your BBQ pork sandwich with pickles and slaw!
